Position Overview

The Datacentre Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of a 1MW datacentre facility. This role combines strategic management with hands-on engineering, requiring active involvement in the maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of mission-critical infrastructure. Core systems include standby diesel generators, electrical distribution (UPS, PDUs, batteries), cooling systems (AC units, air handlers, pumps), fire detection and suppression, and physical security systems (access control, alarms, cameras). Beyond technical responsibilities, the role also covers day-to-day operational tasks such as installing cross-connects, managing vendor relationships, and supporting client requirements, all while ensuring strict compliance with industry standards and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

Facilities Management 
  • Hybrid role combines strategic management with hands-on engineering
  • Total ownership of all critical DC equipment including but not limited to electrical distribution (UPS, PDUs, batteries), cooling systems (AC units, air handlers, pumps), fire detection and suppression, and physical security systems (access control, alarms, cameras).
  • Managing/Scheduling/Overseeing maintenances & repair work with vendors/contractors
  • Maintain proactive awareness of the datacentre environment, promptly identify and address potential issues, and respond effectively to urgent events. This includes participating in an on-call rotation to provide support for out-of-hours incidents.
  • Complete routine tasks such as monthly on/off load generator testing and regular walk throughs of the facility
  • Create and update Policies, Procedures and Processes for the facilities
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and kept up to date
  • Welcome carriers and vendors & occasional escorting of customers
  • Manage installation and running of cross-connects from Meet-Me room to customer cabinets 
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and kept up to date
  • Maintain tidiness and organisation in the Meet-Me rooms and Data Halls 
  • Oversee Data Hall rack installations 
  • Review branch circuit monitoring reports daily and address issues relating to billing 
  • Contract management
  • Liaise with site security 
  • Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives related to building operations, physical security, and work safety
  • Help to manage the administration of other Thrive datacenters globally  
  • Physical requirements include using ladders, opening the floor & ability to lift / carry heavy loads.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Health & Safety 
  • Oversee repairs to building infrastructure (roof, windows, carpets, seating, desks, etc.) 
  • Ensure the site is clean and free from hazardous obstacles 
  • Conduct risk assessments for work carried out in the office 
  • Conduct fire risk assessments and ensure completion of any required actions 



Experience & Qualifications
  • 3 – 5 years experience managing Data Centre facilities or as a senior DC facilities engineer
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related discipline preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of building system design, fire prevention and monitoring systems, electrical distribution, and HVAC systems excellent customer service.
  • Strong knowledge of current IT concepts, issues, practices, methodologies, and trends
  • Familiarity with security systems and protocols 
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills 
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and work on-call as required 
  • Ability to deal effectively with clients, vendors, and peers
  • Knowledge of health & safety regulations and risk assessment procedures 
  • Certifications in Data Centre management, electrical systems, or health & safety (desirable).
